| Between 1958 and 1963, the paths of Burdon, Chandler, Price, Steel and Valentine crossed many times playing in a series of local bands in their home city of Newcastle, England (The Pagan Jazzmen, The Pagans, The Kansas City Five, The Contours, the Wild Cats and the Alan Price Combo). All five first played together in the one band in September 1963 as The Alan Price Combo and first performed gigs as The Animals in London in December 1963. | ||

| John Steel played his last gig with The Animals at Birmingham University on 05-Mar-66. Barry Jenkins played his first gig wityh The Animals at The Olympia in Paris on 15-Mar-66.The Animals offically ceased to exist on 05-Sep-66 (the last studio recordings were in Los Angeles with Frank Zappa on 04-Jul-66 and the band continued its US tour for 5 weeks before the final split). | ||
