| Hilton Valentine was an original member of The Animals from 1963 until the group split in 1967. In 1991 he put together a band playing songs recorded by The Animals. John Steel was also an original member of The Animals from 1963 to 1965 - he joined Valentine's band in 1994. Hutchinson, Dawson and Bland joined the band in 1996. Between 1991 and 1999 there were multiple line-ups in Valentine's band. The line-up above however remained constant from 1996 through to 1999 and performed and recorded as Animals II. | |||

| In an interview in April 2001, Hilton Valentine confirmed his current project as ... "The Animals, with John Steel, Dave Rowberry and Jim Rodford .... we've just got a new singer - an American who lives in New York ... Eamon Cronin". | |||
| As at September 2001 The Animals Official Home Page confirmed that Hilton Valentine is "not currently involved with John Steel and Dave Rowberry in any project. Valentine had relocated to the USA ... Steel and Rowberry had begun performing as Animals and Friends. | |||
| After Dave Rowberry's sudden death in June 2003, John Steel was joined in Animals and Friends by Mickey Gallagher who had played briefly with The Animals in early 1965 (he filled in on keyboards between Alan Price's departure and his subsequent replacement on keyboards by Dave Roberry). | |||
