THE ANGEL
From the liner notes of the 1995 CD "Lost Within The Halls Of Fame" - Jet Records UK (JETCD 1011)
"Angel came down from heaven yesterday ... " |
Words that anyone who's a musician knows, but once they were news to me ..... Saw them on his notepad, he had one verse written and couldn't take it to the bridge ...
Next time I remember hearing the refrain was in my miserable room in London at the Cumberland hotel in winter of '72 ... I had a severe cold ... too many doctors telling me the wrong diagnosis.
I think I had double pneumonia.
I saw the black hole above my head.
I was about to go with it when I heard the sound of the key in the lock and the soft feet upon the floor. The smooth hand upon my forehead and the bright light shining in the darkened room told me you'd completed the song like you promised.
"She staid with me long enough to rescue me ...."
Whenever I was lost ... the angel would save me ...
The Angel:
I saw her picture recently in Rolling Stone magazine, she caught my eye. What made this truly a shock was she was in the hands of the members of my old crew, The Animals. The article also asked where was I, why was I not there! Was I lost again?
Lost within then halls of fame ...
If I was, then surely the angel would come and rescue me ...
I lay alone upon another hotel bed ... another space and time .. Germany 1993 ... Yet another tour ... to feed the children. When I returned to California I was not shocked at all to find you had been taken by force to England ...
I keep looking to the skies, I am sure one day she'll return ... to rescue me, lost within the halls of fame.
