A box set promoted as ... "The Animals, The Troggs, Herman's Hermits and The Bee Gees ... four British acts that followed the Beatles through the trans-Atlantic door to fame and notoriety in America. At a time when the music press declared the second 'British Empire' these guys were the biggest bands in the world!"
However this is a very shabby compilation to be labelled as "The British Invasion!" for two reasons:
Firstly, although the tracks highlighted in bold above (CD#2 The Animals Magic) are credited to The Animals, the tracks appear to be yet another misleading release of re-recordings and new songs by a 1990's band formed and fronted by Danny McCulloch (bassist with Eric Burdon & The Animals in the late 60's) and calling themselves The Animals despite the fact that the band line-up did not include any other members of the 1960's line-ups of The Animals and/or Eric Burdon & The Animals.
Secondly, the Bee Gees were an Australian group (the Gibbs were an English family that had migrated to Australia 1958 and took up residence in suburban Brisbane QLD ... the 'brothers Gibb' originally came to fame as teenagers on Australian radio and TV in 1960 when Barry was just 13 and the twins Maurice and Robin were only 10). After the Gibb brothers had acheived considerable success both as song writers and in their own right as performers in Australia, the Gibb family moved back to England in 1967. The Bee Gees subsequently became famous on a world scene in the late 1960's ... they therefore could not be referred to as being part of the early 1960's "British Invasion" of the USA music charts.
